Google Relevance-What is Relevance?

Google relevance is not what an average person would think.

This is my adventure learning about Google relevancy.

This is not a pretty story, the only good things about this story are I didn’t lose any money (well, just all of the money before I found out about this), and I now understand Google relevance.

I have been receiving Google adword coupons. They wanted me to jump into buying ads, and were tempting me with $100 credit.

I have over 500 projects on the web, some are doing okay, others not so good. The internet, for me, is a learning experience, at this point.

One of the things I did was manage to get sand boxed, not once, but many different times.

I didn’t even find out about the sand boxing for three years.

I still don’t know how I got sand boxed, but I spent 5 months going over each project and republishing.

That is how I began to get some movement, some income from my projects.

I am a published author, and without any advertising, or internet marketing, on my part, my books sell.

The day after Christmas 2010, I got this fantastic idea for a new book. A science fiction, adventure, romances (?), creature feature, and horror novel.

For a week I went through my normal routine in a daze, while the stories unfolded in my mind.

Early the morning of January 1, 2011 I sat down and began writing the story.

I handwrite my creations.

I continued my normal routines, but by February 11, 2011, I had 697 double pages of shorthand writing.

This equals approx 1,200 pages of solid content.

The first book was finished, and the second well on the way.

I had deformed the fingertip and first knuckle of the middle finger of my right hand, from the constant writing.

Exhausted, I wrapped my finger in a thick bandage and made foam pads for my pens, and kept writing.

Normally when I finish writing a book I transcribe it (forget having someone do it for me), type it into its final format, do the first and second edits, and publish it.

In a few months I go back, do any necessary edits, and maybe add some content.

But, and this is a big but, most of my books are centered around healing yourself. Those books are 24 to 100 pages in length.

I have written some story books about real people, in real situations and their solutions, 200 to 300 pages in length.

But, this is the first time I have allowed the impulse to write a novel to take hold of me.

Another urge grabbed me by the throat and started to strangle me.

I wanted to publish this book one page or post, as I typed it up, and I wanted to make the book a free online book to read.

Now, keep in mind I am envisioning more than 1,000 posts for a SINGLE blog.

A blog is all of the posts, right?

Wrong!

Stay with me as I layout the Google relevancy TRAP.

I did the first pages on Squidoo lenses, but the novels were taking darker turns, and there is always someone wanting to lock a lens.

So I decided to do a blogger blog, tucked behind a maturity screen.

A few people are stumbling over Use The Future, but I haven’t done anything but post my typed pages on the blog.

One day I had a whole uninterrupted hour to consider Google’s $100 coupon.

I did the keyword check, using Google Adword Keyword Tool. I didn’t know that the monthly traffic numbers are off by a factor of 10.

The suggested bids per click, per keyword, are ridiculously high so I ignored them.

I carefully set the date for 20 days, set the bid a 5 cents, a $2.00 a day maximum.

I put my chosen, zero completion, lots of traffic, keywords into a campaign, and pushed submit.

I then did the same thing for another project, a Baywords page mentioning Use The Future.

Yep, different target keywords, but the same campaign.

I get a frantic phone call from a Google ad salesman.

The nice gentleman talked me into deleting the second ad and its keywords.

Then I let him talk me into raising the bids, and the daily limit.

I raised the daily limit to $12 a day, for 7 days, only.

The nice gentleman is sort of sputtering by this point…

Then he tells me Use The Future is no good, because each page is a 79% duplicate of 200 other web pages.

What !?!

The content on each of my pages or posts is completely different, completely original, following my story lines.

He kept on blathering.

He tells me my web pages or posts has no relevance to its keywords or the keywords I was using for the adword campaign.

What !?!

Every post of my blog leads to the next post. My blog is completely relevant to the plots in the novel !!

“No.” He tells me. “Your post is not relevant!

And Google is all about Relevancy!”

He tells me he will call back in 7 days. He wants me to run a $3,000 a month adword campaign for a free to read online book.

The more I thought about the phone call, the more irritated I became.

What was that man yammering about?

None of my content was duplicated!

I pulled up my blog and looked at several pages. What was the same on each page, 79% the same?

My content was original, so it wasn’t the story.

The archive is the same, but that is needed for readers to find their place, when they return to read some more.

I have a small box to the right of my content, directing new readers to the first page. That is the same post to post, and necessary.

I searched for and found a free Google duplication checker. I put in the url, and it came back 79% duplication!

I went back to my blog. The only things left were the header and the description box.

I tried to delete the header, and found out that you can’t, at least not on blogger.

I deleted the description (that you can do on blogger), and went back to the duplication checker.

I put in the url, and it came back 28% duplication. The checker gave me a green check mark. I was now acceptable.

Internet marketing tip
#1

Remove any and all unnecessary duplication from your blogs or web sites.

Okay, if he was right about duplication, just blaming my story instead of the repeating modules, then could he be right about no relevancy?

No!

My blog is a novel relevant to all of the plots, twists, and turns, what can the problem be?

The true nightmare hit me in the middle of the night.

A blog is not a single blog full of its posts.

A blog is an entity, only to its creator, and to its readers.

To the search engines, the concept of a blog, or a website, does not exist.

To the search engines, to Google, each post, each page is a separate entity.

Search engines, Google, ignores the achieves, and unless a single post or page references or links other posts or pages from the same blog, the same web site, there is no connection to the rest of the blog posts or web pages.

Yikes!

Imagine one full page, from any book that you like, now post that page to a stand alone post…

No relevance!

I title my posts by the initial words, but, for example:

The Door

Note: The door has the failed lock that ends up killing…

How can I make each page relevant to its title and keywords?

Main keyword for that post in the title, in the url, at the first or near the beginning of the first sentence of the post.

What ever mentions are made in that page of the story, and the exact title two lines down from the end of the content.

It worked... on that one page.

Now, what about my other projects?

Remember I told you I had about 500 projects online?

I was wrong.

Each page, each post is a separate project.

I have about 21,000 projects online, that must be made relevant content.

Internet marketing tip #2

Main keyword in url, title, first of beginning sentence of content, 2-4 times scattered around the content, and the main keyword the last phrase of the last sentence.

A dozen or so phrases commonly used with your main keyword, scattered through out the content.

Remember to add your main keyword to your tags.

Oh yes, make the content readable and usable for your readers.

I hope this explains the Google relevance trap, and a few other things.

Read Online-Writers and Readers

Read Online for Writers and Readers

Read online, why?

There are only two reasons to read online. One is information, serious research or casual interest. The other reason is entertainment, a graphic novel , or a short story.

The reasons are the same as for those who read offline.

As an internet marketing writer, and an author, I’ve been asking myself why people would read online.

When I researched the keyword read online, I came up with some interesting insights:

1. Read online- a person looking for something using this phrase is desperate. They need to escape, now.

2. Read books online- someone with a ‘hurry up and wait’ job. They have some time, but want something to show for the use of the time.

3. Read books online free- smart, why pay for something you can get free. Great way to find a ‘new to you’ author.

4. Novel online- A person with lots of interests.

An adventure, horror, science fiction, romances (?) and metaphysical story would interest these searchers.

5. Free book online- Anything will do.

As a writer I need to write content 350 to 700 words long to satisfy different searchers needs, but as an author I need to write content that may be a three book series, a 100,000 or so words, maybe a thousand long posts on a blog.

But, as a reader, how would I find the read online for free blog book?

The only way a reader can find a new book, is for the author to write articles that point to the online read.

Now, you might think that people would search for romance novels online, mature stories, new science fiction, something specific…

But, readers know that you can have a romance story buried and woven through a science fiction, adventure, horror story.

In this case I would need to warn people this is a mature, adult, grown up story, not for religious fanatics, or weak willed people.

How could I warn people about this?

Put it in the article.

Now, in this example I would need to warn some readers this story begins as a reincarnation, metaphysical tutorial, but everyone must read everything, including the introductions.

The readers will be introduced to the different plots early, here and there, so no reader can afford to skip pages.

Some readers would need patience as the read online story become a seemingly young adult adventure novel.

The romances are not make believe scenarios, but as you progress through the novel the horror becomes…

Hum…

Writers, consider your readers.

Readers, consider search engine limitations.
